Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, a Tamil Nadu MP, spoke at the “Thaiyal Nayagi – We Mature, She Blooms” event in Chennai on Saturday. The programme highlighted the state’s push for women’s empowerment, a priority of Chief Minister MK Stalin’s government.
During her address, Kanimozhi praised the state’s education progress, noting that no village in Tamil Nadu today lacks school‑educated women. She said the Chief Minister’s marriage‑assistance scheme now supports families regardless of gender, giving everyone a chance to succeed.
The event also distributed free sewing machines to hundreds of women. Kanimozhi urged the audience to view tailoring as a worthwhile profession and to embrace financial independence. “The money you earn belongs to you,” she said. “Use it to build your skills, support your family, and pursue your dreams.”
She highlighted the creation of self‑help groups in the state, which help women stand on their own feet. Kanimozhi reminded attendees that society’s restrictions—about how women should dress or behave—must end. Only women should decide what they want to study, how they dress, and what career they pursue.
The activist-filled gathering finished with a strong call for women to break every obstacle that hinders them. The event underscored Tamil Nadu’s reputation for hard‑working, self‑reliant women, and confirmed the government’s commitment to full gender equality and empowerment.
