Actor-turned-politician Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), kicks off the second phase of his statewide campaign on Saturday in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. This comes as he gears up for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, drawing big crowds and sparking plenty of buzz.

Vijay plans to speak to supporters at 11 a.m. in Nagapattinam. From there, he’ll move on to Thiruvarur for another event at 3 p.m. Fans and party members are expected to turn out in force, just like they did for the campaign’s first stop.

That initial leg launched on September 13 in Tiruchirappalli district, where thousands of Vijay’s supporters showed up, creating an electric atmosphere. His full tour will hit every district in Tamil Nadu, with a packed schedule of public meetings to connect directly with voters ahead of the 2026 polls.

Vijay’s rallies have pulled in huge numbers, highlighting his growing influence in Tamil Nadu politics. But the Trichy event didn’t go without controversy—reports of damage to public property led to some backlash. In response, TVK rolled out guidelines for supporters to keep things orderly.

This all ties back to a recent Madras High Court hearing. TVK had challenged what they called overly strict police rules for approving public meetings and rallies. Justice N. Sathish Kumar pointed out that some of these conditions might unfairly target TVK and create unnecessary hurdles for political events.

Court photos from the Trichy rally showed clear signs of property damage, which fueled the discussion. The judge stressed that party leaders like Vijay must step up for crowd control and public safety. He specifically urged TVK to make sure events stay peaceful and to avoid pressuring vulnerable groups—like pregnant women or people with disabilities—to join if their safety can’t be guaranteed.

The court also directed the Tamil Nadu government to draft fair, uniform guidelines for all political parties when it comes to permissions for rallies and public gatherings. This move aims to level the playing field across the board for the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections.
