RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Slams Tariffs on Indian Goods as ‘Fear of a Rising India’

In a powerful speech in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat hit out at global tariffs on Indian exports, calling them a sign of fear from stronger nations worried about India’s rapid growth. Speaking at the 7th foundation day event of Brahma Kumaris Vishwa Samiti Sarovar on Friday, Bhagwat urged the world to ditch self-centered thinking and embrace "belongingness" to tackle big global challenges.

Bhagwat explained that these tariffs stem from a narrow mindset, where countries slap barriers on Indian goods even without any direct rivalry. "Nations impose tariffs out of apprehension that India’s progress could diminish their own global standing," he said, clearly pointing fingers at recent US moves. The US has hit Indian exports and services with up to 50% "reciprocal tariffs," blaming India’s oil imports from Russia during the Ukraine crisis. Despite India staying neutral and not starting any fights, Bhagwat noted, these barriers keep popping up.

He added a deeper twist: "We did nothing, but they are luring the one who did it, thinking that if they stay with them, pressure will build on India." Bhagwat stressed that fear drives this—fear of losing power as India rises. But he believes compassion, self-awareness, and brotherhood can change everything. "Overcoming fear leads to a world without enemies," he said, pushing for peace over rivalry.

The RSS leader called on people and nations to understand their true selves first. Without that, problems will keep piling up for everyone. He criticized the "only me" approach that’s blinding the world to real solutions. "It’s impossible for them to find the way because of their self-centered attitude," Bhagwat remarked.

Bhagwat sees India in a unique spot to lead by example. Instead of acting like a bossy "guru," India should position itself as a true friend to the world. By shifting to compassion and unity, he believes global issues like trade wars and conflicts can finally find answers. His words come at a time when India-US trade tensions are making headlines, highlighting the need for stronger ties amid rising protectionism.
