In Patna on Saturday, Tej Pratap Yadav—whose father Lalu Prasad Yadav once led Bihar—took to the press to slam his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, over the term “Jan Nayak.”
Tej Pratap said that Tejashwi can never truly be a Jan Nayak and that any successes he has today are only thanks to their father’s legacy. He added that when Tejashwi does something on his own merit, he will be the first to call him a Jan Nayak, but for now true leaders must be men like Karpoori Thakur, Ram Manohar Lohia or Lalu himself.
The comments came after the RJD office in Patna hung a poster calling Tejashwi a “Nayak.” Tej Pratap, who is contesting the Mahua Assembly seat in Vaishali district, told reporters his campaign is moving ahead smoothly.
“I’m getting a great response in Mahua.” He added that he helped set up a medical college there, plans an engineering college and even a cricket stadium. “I’ll organize an India‑Pakistan cricket match in Mahua,” he joked.
When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark on LED lights, Tej Pratap quipped, “My car has LED lights. Our party symbol is a blackboard—we’re no longer living in the lantern era.”
Tej Pratap also said he would not jump back into the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) even if offered a spot, claiming he is not power‑hungry.
He has served the Mahua constituency before, was health minister in the Nitish Kumar administration, and won the Hasanpur seat in Samastipur on an RJD ticket in 2020.
