Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition leader in Bihar’s assembly, fired back at the ruling NDA government after Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed out Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women under the state’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana scheme. Speaking in Patna on Friday, Yadav accused the Nitish Kumar-led administration of straight-up copying the RJD’s own Mai-Bahen Maan Yojana for Bihar elections just around the corner.
“This NDA government is just lifting our ideas to score votes,” Yadav said. He questioned whether the central government chipped in even a single penny, insisting it’s all Bihar state money. “They’ll hand out cash once or twice before the polls, then figure out how to claw it back. But Bihar’s people aren’t that easy to fool,” he added, calling the move a short-term election stunt forced by opposition pressure.
Shifting gears, Yadav broke his silence on the buzz around his sister, Rohini Acharya, amid reports of rifts inside the RJD. He defended her fiercely, highlighting her deep personal sacrifices for the family. Rohini donated a kidney to their father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, during a tough health crisis—a rare act of love, Yadav noted.
“Rohini played a huge role in my growth and never chased party tickets or power for herself,” he said. “People in Chhapra pushed for her to join politics, and Dad listened to them. She didn’t ask for anything or try to boost anyone else’s chances.”
Yadav slammed efforts to smear Rohini’s name as “shameful,” especially coming from rivals. He took aim at Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary from the BJP, recalling a nasty comment during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “Choudhary mocked that Lalu was trading kidneys for tickets. Only the BJP could stoop that low with their so-called values,” Yadav charged.
The comments come as the RJD grapples with internal drama, including Rohini’s reported frustration over the Sanjay Yadav controversy. With Bihar Assembly elections looming, these tensions could shake up the opposition’s strategy against the NDA.
