Tejashwi Yadav Slams Bihar Minister for Alleged Assault on Journalist, Demands FIR
In a fiery press conference in Patna on Monday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav blasted Urban Development and Housing Minister Jibesh Kumar Mishra for allegedly assaulting and abusing a journalist from a backward community. Yadav shared a video clip showing the minister shouting at the reporter and demanded an immediate FIR against him.
The incident reportedly happened during Mishra’s visit to his Jale constituency. According to Yadav, the journalist simply asked about the poor road conditions, but the minister lost his cool, beat him up, and hurled abuses. "This is a serious crime by a minister. Look at this video—it’s clear evidence," Yadav said, pointing out that the journalist belongs to a marginalized group.
Yadav didn’t hold back, questioning if Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who’s visiting Purnea today, knows about this Bihar minister’s behavior. He also took a dig at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the deputy chief ministers. "Before 2005, leaders faced such questions without drama. This was just about roads—not something trivial. Does the PM, who’s coming here, even care? Doesn’t this journalist have a family?" Yadav asked, highlighting the humanity behind the attack.
He accused the Bihar administration of protecting ministers and ignoring the law. "Why no FIR yet? This is BJP culture—ministers beat journalists, abuse them, and nothing happens. Is the law different for the powerful?" Yadav questioned, urging journalists to keep pushing for action. He even claimed police collude with ministers, letting them take bribes while jailing the poor on petty charges like liquor violations.
Yadav painted a grim picture: "There’s an understanding between officials and ministers—you can bribe, beat people, and get away. Police lock up the poor but sell liquor themselves and skip real investigations. If a journalist faces this, imagine what poor folks endure."
Meanwhile, PM Modi’s Purnea visit is all about big development boosts for Bihar. He’s set to launch the National Makhana Board and open the new Interim Terminal Building at Purnea Airport. Modi will also kick off projects worth Rs 36,000 crore, including the foundation stone for a massive 3×800 MW thermal power plant at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur. This Rs 25,000 crore private investment, Bihar’s largest, uses ultra-super critical low-emission tech to boost power supply and energy security.
Yadav’s outburst adds heat to Bihar politics ahead of Modi’s trip, spotlighting journalist safety and government accountability in the state.
