Tejashwi Yadav pledges Rs 2,500 aid to women under “Mai Bahin Maan Yojana” in Bihar if RJD comes to power

In Patna, Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav made a bold promise on Thursday. If his party wins power in the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, he’ll roll out the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana statewide. This scheme aims to give ₹2,500 in monthly financial help to women from vulnerable and backward communities, boosting support for RJD and its Congress allies.

Talking to reporters, Yadav highlighted the growing call for change. “We’ll start the Maa Yojana, the Beti Yojana, and the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana,” he said. He pointed to large crowds of women from blocks and panchayats across Bihar, saying it shows everyone wants real progress this time—and it’s coming.

Yadav didn’t hold back on his criticism of the ruling NDA government. The day before, at the launch of the Ati Pichda Nyay Sankalp program in Patna, he called it a “Nakalchi” or copycat administration with no fresh ideas. “They might even steal our announcements now,” he warned the crowd. He took shots at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming he’s been “hijacked” and lost in a trance. “People are chanting, ‘Do hazar paanch se pachchis, Bahur Hue Nitish’—from 2,500 to 25,000, Nitish has gone astray,” Yadav quipped. He accused the state of being run by top leaders Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.

Yadav also slammed corrupt officials for running shady operations and draining Bihar’s funds for personal gain, all while using Kumar’s name. He vowed to crack down on those opposing reservations and the rise of backward classes if RJD forms the next government. “Action will be taken,” he assured.

The promises fit into a bigger push from the opposition. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke at the same event, outlining a 10-point program to lift backward classes, Dalits, and other deprived groups if the alliance wins. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, joined in, charging that citizens’ rights are under threat not just in Bihar but across India.
