New Delhi – Bihar’s voters are holding their breath as the Assembly election count is set to begin Friday. The state’s 243 constituencies will be tallied by the Election Commission of India (ECI), a moment everyone in Bihar is watching closely.
RJD spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari is hopeful. In a press release, he said the long‑awaited “moment for Bihar has arrived” and that Tejashwi Yadav’s government will win. “Whatever predictions were made, the results will favor us,” Tiwari told . He added the Nitish Kumar government is “bidding farewell” and the Mahagathbandhan will take office.
VIP, a party in the Mahagathbandhan, echoed this optimism. VIP spokesperson Dev Jyoti said the vote shows clear support from the poor, labourers and Ambedkarites. “By about 10 or 10:30 a.m. you will see the Mahagathbandhan forming the government,” he told reporters.
The ECI has set up 4,372 counting tables in Bihar. Each table is staffed by a supervisor, assistant and micro‑observer. The 243 Returning Officers and an equal number of Counting Observers will oversee the process, with over 18,000 agents on hand to ensure transparency.
Counting starts at 8 a.m. with postal ballots, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 a.m. Postal votes must finish before the final EVM round. EVM control units will be presented to counting agents for seal and serial‑number checks under Form 17C. If any discrepancy appears, VVPAT slips from that station will be counted. Also, five random polling stations per constituency will have VVPAT verification after the EVM count.
Results will be announced by each Returning Officer round‑by‑round and constituency‑by‑constituency. The ECI urges people to use the official results portal for up‑to‑date information and warns against unofficial sources that may spread misinformation.
The counting day is a key moment that will decide whether the Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav, will secure a new government for Bihar.
