Union Minister Nityanand Rai fired back at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Friday, slamming his remarks on Bihar’s new Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana as outright anti-women and anti-development.
Yadav had called the NDA-led Bihar government copycats and claimed the Rs 10,000 grant under the scheme was really just a loan that women would have to pay back later. Rai, speaking to in Patna, defended the program fiercely. He described the direct transfer of Rs 10,000 into women’s bank accounts as a game-changer led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“This is a historic move,” Rai said. “Bihar is leading the way in giving women real chances for self-employment. But Tejashwi Yadav and the Lalu family? Their only plan has always been ‘Mera Parivar, Sukhi Parivar’—family first, everyone else last. His trash-talk on the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana shows he’s against women and progress.”
The controversy comes right after PM Modi launched the scheme, which pumps Rs 10,000 straight into the accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar— that’s a whopping Rs 7,500 crore in total support. It’s all about boosting women’s empowerment through self-employment opportunities, with an initial grant via Direct Benefit Transfer and potential follow-up aid up to Rs 2 lakh.
At a recent event, Modi chatted with one beneficiary and encouraged her to spread the word about how government initiatives are changing lives under the current regime. Noorjahan Khatun, who runs a tailoring business, shared her story with gratitude. “This Rs 10,000 has been a huge boost,” she said.
Other women in Patna echoed that excitement. One beneficiary told , “We’ve got so much relief now. We can step out and work—never dreamed this could happen in Patna. Thanks to the Modi government, we’re finding good jobs. Big thanks to PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar.”
Geetanjali Devi, another recipient, lit up about the direct bank deposit. “This will help us a ton. No one thought about us before, but CM Nitish Kumar and the Prime Minister did. The first Rs 10,000 installment has our whole family smiling.”
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is already making waves as a key step for women’s employment in Bihar, focusing on practical support to help families thrive.
