Hyderabad – The Telangana chief minister, A. Revanth Reddy, used a rally at Charminar on Sunday to accuse the state’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of working with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to split votes in the upcoming Jubilee Hills by‑election.
Reddy said the BRS had signed a secret deal with the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, which sent 21 percent of voters to the BJP. “That shows the BRS is playing the same game in the Jubilee Hills race,” he said. He warned that the same collusion could affect the next Assembly elections and urged voters to reject the strategy.
The chief minister also called on young people to get involved in politics and urged lawmakers to consider lowering the constitutional voting age to 21 for Assembly contests. “Rajiv Gandhi gave us the right to vote at 18, which helped build our democracy,” Reddy said. He reflected on the legacy of the Gandhi family, noting how their sacrifices inspired the nation.
During the same event, Reddy presented the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award to senior Union Minister Salman Khurshid. The award ceremony was attended by state Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud, state minister P. Srinivas Reddy, former MP V. Hanumanth Rao, government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir, and other leaders.
The rally, held on the historic Sadbhavana Yatra commemoration day, highlighted Hyderabad’s political scene and the ongoing debate over election tactics and voter engagement in Telangana.
