Telangana CM directs officials to prioritise education, healthcare, infrastructure in Core Urban City development

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy wants to transform Hyderabad’s core urban area into a world-class hub that truly serves everyday people. On Monday, he gathered top officials at the Secretariat for a key review meeting, stressing that projects like the Telangana Rising Core Urban City Area must go beyond surface-level fixes. Instead, they should boost living standards for poor and middle-class families flocking to Greater Hyderabad from across India.

With lakhs of families migrating here, Reddy made it clear: infrastructure needs to keep pace with the booming population and match global standards. He urged a deep dive into 111 proposals from Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, grouped into five big areas—stronger infrastructure, education and health upgrades, smarter traffic flow, tourism boosts, and reliable public services.

Education topped the list. Reddy called for quick reforms in basic schooling across Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas, corporations, and municipalities. Officials must identify all government primary schools, high schools, and colleges to deliver top-notch education from nursery through intermediate levels. Focus on nursery to fourth-grade setups, he said, building modern facilities on government land. To make it efficient, merge under-resourced schools—maybe four or five—into shared complexes for better results.

Teacher shortages? Fix them fast. And ease the load on parents by offering government-funded breakfast, lunch, snacks, and transport for kids. The Education Department got orders to roll out this plan right away, helping low-income families thrive in a growing city like Hyderabad.

Healthcare can’t lag behind. Reddy pushed for special clinics to give instant medical help to the poor, reviewing facilities in the core urban zone. He also cracked down on cleanliness, telling GHMC and municipal teams to step up garbage collection for a spotless Hyderabad. Neglect it, and face consequences—but excel, and earn promotions or key roles.

Government offices in the area? No more renting space. Allocate land now and prioritize building own structures. Reddy’s green push includes solar power for all offices, schools, colleges, and even the Secretariat—install those plants immediately to promote renewable energy in Hyderabad.

Protecting the environment matters too. Prioritize saving ponds and lakes from encroachments, and launch a digital land database to secure unused government plots. For traffic woes that snarl the city for hours, conduct studies and set up advanced signaling systems. Link every junction to a central command control room, partnering with Google if needed. The meeting even floated drone policing for busy spots and buying drones to monitor crowds—plus, build water-harvesting wells at intersections to stop rain-induced flooding.

Reddy wants seamless coordination: Align boundaries for municipal zones, police stations, water boards, and electricity circles so officers work hand-in-hand. He suggested robots and machines for cleaning drains and manholes, and modernizing spots like the Amberpet cemetery on par with Jubilee Hills.

Tourism gets a facelift around Hussain Sagar. Plans for Hussain Sagar 2.0 include skywalks, cycle tracks, multi-level parking, and eye-catching features to draw visitors. Beautify Necklace Road, Indira Park, and Sanjeevaiah Park to make them global draws. Every park in the core area should welcome kids, seniors, and walkers—with play zones, child-friendly spots, and vending areas for street sellers.

Fire safety in high-rises demands strict rules. Test solar-powered streetlights and pilot solar panels at renovated ponds. Upgrade public toilets with a dedicated system, revamp electricity substations and transformers, and keep freshwater and sewage management separate. Streamline permissions across departments for smoother Hyderabad development.

Finally, Reddy aims for a drug-free Hyderabad. Take tough action against users—no treating them as victims. Send those caught with drugs or ganja to a new rehab center at Cherlapalli jail for at least 10 days, managed by ex-military experts.
