In Mahabubabad, Telangana, a domestic dispute turned deadly when a husband murdered his wife.
Chekati Swapna was killed by her husband, Naresh, who stabbed her in the neck with an axe amid a quarrel over their 17‑year‑old son’s Devi immersion ceremony.
Neighbors say the argument began when Swapna and Naresh fought over the boy’s participation in the Dussehra ritual, which the husband blamed on his wife. The fight quickly escalated, and Naresh struck his wife with an axe, killing her on the spot in Allery village, near Nellikudur police station.
Police received a complaint from Swapna’s sister, Macharla Uma, and the case was registered immediately. Swampati’s body was shifted for a post‑mortem, and investigators are now probing the incident. The local police, led by a sub‑inspector, are said to be thoroughly reviewing security footage and statements from neighbors.
The tragedy highlights the rising issue of domestic violence in the region and the urgent need for swift legal and community responses.
In a separate but equally alarming incident, Delhi Police are investigating a stabbing in the Brahmpuri area of Northeast Delhi. A 24‑year‑old woman was reportedly stabbed by her 23‑year‑old husband during an argument. The victim, who had been staying with her parents because of marital tensions, was rushed to JPC Hospital after sustaining serious injuries. Police said the husband had called her to meet, but the confrontation erupted into violence, leading to the stabbing. The case is currently under investigation by Delhi authorities.
