Hyderabad, Oct 23 – Telangana’s Endowment and Forest Minister Konda Surekha has apologized to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for remarks made by her daughter during a recent police raid at the minister’s home.
Following a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Surekha spoke to reporters about a misunderstanding that sparked a family‑like quarrel inside her house. “Like in any family, there were some quarrels at the party due to misunderstandings,” she said. “We have to work together just like we do in the family.” She added that her daughter, Sushmita, had briefly spoken negatively about the chief minister after police arrived, and that the daughter has already apologized.
The incident unfolded on the night of October 15 when law‑enforcement officers visited Surekha’s Hyderabad residence to arrest OSD N. Sumanth. The government had fired Sumanth after allegations that he threatened a cement‑factory manager with a gun over an extortion plea. Surekha’s daughter denied entering the premises and demanded to see an arrest warrant, leading to a heated standoff with plain‑clothes officers. While Sumanth remained in the house, the police eventually left in a car with the minister.
In the days that followed, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud joined Surekha and her husband Konda Murali on a surprise trip to the chief minister’s residence. The delegation aimed to quell tensions after Sushmita publicly criticized the chief minister and a senior aide, Vem Narender Reddy, and new revenue minister P. Srinivas Reddy. She claimed that her parents were targeted because of their backward‑caste background and that Sumanth was “booked” to “target” them.
The AICC and other party leaders have taken the matter seriously. Konda Surekha says she will work with the chief minister and party colleagues to clear up any misunderstandings. “We’ll sort out the differences and move forward,” she told reporters.
This episode highlights how a contested police raid, allegations of political corruption, and personal family disputes can quickly turn into a public controversy. The Telangana government continues to investigate the extortion claims against Sumanth, while party leaders seek to maintain stability within the ruling Congress.
