In Hyderabad on Monday, Telangana Endowment and Forest Minister Konda Surekha met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy after a police raid on her house the week earlier. The raid targeted the former Officer in Charge (OSD), N. Sumanth, who was dismissed for alleged extortion.
The police arrived on October 15 and tried to arrest Sumanth, who the government said had threatened a cement factory manager with a gun for money. While the police were on the scene, Surekha’s daughter Sushmita blocked their entry, asking for an arrest warrant. She confronted the plain‑clothes officers and later claimed that her family might be targeted because they belong to a backward caste.
Sushmita also named senior leaders in the controversy. She said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, advisor Vem Narender Reddy and revenue minister P. Srinivas Reddy were protected from investigation. The girl alleged that the incident happened in Huzurnagar, the constituency of Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, and that close aide Rohin Reddy met with a cement firm amid calls for no action.
Amid the turmoil, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud escorted Surekha and her husband, Konda Murali, to the Chief Minister’s residence for Diwali greetings. Their visit aimed to calm tensions after the police team’s arrival and the heated exchanges that followed.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) stepped in, directing Surekha and her daughter to stay away from the press while the matter is investigated. The episode highlights rising political friction in Telangana, with allegations of political protection and caste‑based targeting drawing sharp headlines.
