Hyderabad – Telangana’s Minister of Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, told reporters on Tuesday that any motion picture featuring Andhra Prem’s Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan would be prohibited from screening in Telangana unless the actor issues a sincere apology for his “insulting” remarks about the state.
Venkat Reddy added that Pawan Kalyan would be allowed to play his movies only after tendering an unconditional apology. “If he apologises, his films will run for at least a couple of days; if he refuses, they won’t be shown anywhere in Telangana,” he said, stressing that this stance came from his capacity as the Minister for Cinematography, in addition to his road and building duties.
The minister clarified that the issue has nothing to do with megastar Chiranjeevi, whom he described as a “sober man” who keeps clear of controversy.
“Pawan Kalyan, still new to politics, has been making controversial statements since taking office as Deputy Chief Minister,” Venkat Reddy said. “He made these remarks at a time when Telangana entered its 13th year of existence, just after celebrating 12 years of statehood.”
In a separate incident, the Andhra Prem Deputy Chief Minister blamed the “evil eye” for the death of coconut trees in the verdant Konaseema region. The Jana Sena leader, who had recently visited the area to inspect damage caused by seawater from a drain, seemed to link the calamity to the state’s bifurcation.
The comments sparked a strong reaction from Telangana leaders. Animal Husbandry Minister Vakati Srihari criticized Pawan Kalyan for “being unable to digest” Telangana’s remarkable development, calling the deputy chief minister’s remarks “immature” and accusing him of using the issue for political gain. He demanded an immediate retraction.
Congress MLA J. Anirudh Reddy from Jadcherla called on Pawan Kalyan to provide an unconditional apology. He questioned, “If Telangana has an evil eye on Godavari and Konaseema, why is Pawan Kalyan staying in Hyderabad?” and urged the actor to sell his Hyderabad properties and move to Vijayawada.
