Telangana Gears Up for Godavari Pushkaralu 2027: CM Revanth Reddy Pushes for Special Central Package and Mega Preparations
Hyderabad is buzzing with plans for the grand Godavari Pushkaralu festival in 2027, often called the Southern Kumbh Mela. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy chaired a key meeting on Friday and announced that the Telangana government will ask the Centre for a special financial package. This comes as officials expect a huge rush of pilgrims for the holy dips in the Godavari River.
The event kicks off on July 23, 2027, giving the team about 22 months to get everything ready. Revanth Reddy told officials to focus on building lasting infrastructure that can handle the crowds for years to come. "We need solid long-term planning," he stressed during the meeting at the Command Control Centre.
The Godavari River stretches around 560 km through Telangana, and the state plans to set up about 74 ghats for the Pushkaralu baths. The CM wants top priority on key spots like Basara, Kaleshwaram, Dharmapuri, and Bhadrachalam temples, where the most devotees flock. These areas will get permanent ghats, upgraded temples, and better facilities to manage over two lakh pilgrims in a single day.
Think smooth roads, smart traffic control, ample parking, clean drinking water, safe bathing areas, and enough places to stay. Revanth Reddy made it clear: no shortcuts for the lakhs of devotees coming for the sacred dips. He urged officials to visit all riverside temples, chat with local committees, and prepare detailed project reports for each major site from Basara to Bhadrachalam.
To make it world-class, the CM suggested hiring experts who’ve handled big events like the Kumbh Mela and Pushkar festivals in other states. Plus, tap into central schemes such as Swachh Bharat for cleanliness and Jal Jeevan Mission for water supply. He called for tight teamwork between the Tourism, Irrigation, and Endowments Departments, along with top agencies to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The meeting included big names like Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Endowments Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, CMO Principal Secretary Sheshadri, CM’s Principal Secretary Srinivasa Raju, and religious advisor Govind Hari. With these steps, Telangana aims to turn Godavari Pushkaralu 2027 into an unforgettable celebration of faith and culture.
