Police Crack Down on International Ganja Ring Linked to Thailand and Dubai
In a big victory against drug traffickers, Delhi Police have busted an international narcotics cartel connected to Thailand and Dubai. Six people have been arrested from Delhi, Hyderabad, and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, and over 5.7 kilograms of cannabis and Ocean Grown (OG) Ganja have been seized.
According to police officials, the drug syndicate specialized in smuggling high-quality Ganja from Bangkok. The cartel bought OG Ganja at around Rs 1.5 lakh per kilogram in Thailand and sold it in Delhi-NCR at a huge profit, earning between Rs 6-7 lakh per kilo.
The illegal money was reportedly sent to a key member based in Dubai, and police also seized three cars and two passports during the operation. The police say this organized ring was led by Anil Kumar Singh, who managed activities in Thailand, and Ishan, who operated from Dubai.
Anil Kumar Singh, 37, from Azamgarh, was arrested in Hyderabad on September 1. He previously stayed in Bangkok and arranged the smuggling of Ganja using local contacts. Singh then supplied the drugs to carriers sent by Ishan. A raid at Singh’s village in Azamgarh also recovered 2.029 kg of Ganja from his car.
Singh was earlier arrested in January 2025 while trying to leave the country with two passports, which led to his booking under the Passport Prevention Act.
Police also arrested other suspects involved in the network. These include travel operator Mehraj Khan, 42, from West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, and visa agent Pratap Singh, 32, from Nilothi. Both were caught near a Delhi hotel on August 26 with 3.708 kg of OG Ganja. They lured carriers with promises of overseas trips and easy money.
Additional arrests include property dealer Surjeet Singh, 34, from Chander Vihar, who supplied carriers of Ganja; auto driver Rajwant Singh, 49, from Nihal Vihar; and Harpreet Singh, 27, from Vikaspuri Extension. All were caught with drugs and involved in distributing the narcotics.
In total, six people were arrested, and police recovered over 5.7 kg of Ganja, along with vehicles and passports used in the illegal trade.
Police say this syndicate operated very professionally. Singh and his associates managed the entire network from abroad, recruiting carriers with offers of trips and good money. In Bangkok, local suppliers handed sealed packets of Ganja to carriers, who then traveled to Indian airports like Amritsar, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Delhi. These carriers contacted coordinators in Delhi, who arranged further distribution across the Delhi-NCR region. The profits from selling Ganja were shared among the members, police added.
This crackdown shows Delhi Police’s firm stand against drug trafficking and their efforts to dismantle international drug networks.
