Manipur Governor Highlights Progress in Peace Restoration Amid Challenges
In Imphal, Manipur, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla shared an optimistic update on Saturday about the state’s journey toward peace. He admitted that Manipur has faced tough challenges over the past two years, but joint efforts by the state government, central authorities, and local people have brought back a lot of harmony. Still, Bhalla emphasized that building trust and reconciliation needs more work as the state looks ahead to a brighter future.
Speaking at a public gathering, the governor urged everyone in Manipur to set aside differences and unite for peace and prosperity. "We’ve turned a corner, and now it’s time to heal, rebuild, and restart," he said. Bhalla pointed out key improvements in the law and order situation, noting no major violent incidents recently. He credited security forces from both state and central levels for this stability.
Progress isn’t just about security—Manipur has seen big strides in social welfare, infrastructure, and economic growth too. Many health facilities, closed during the unrest, have reopened. The government is focusing on helping internally displaced people (IDPs) by creating action plans for quick resettlement and regularly checking relief camps to better living conditions.
This comes right after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to Manipur since the 2023 ethnic violence. Early Saturday, PM Modi called on all ethnic groups in the state to drop violence and join hands for peace. Addressing a crowd in Churachandpur, he promised full central support and said a "new dawn of hope and confidence" is rising in the northeastern state.
"I urge every group to choose peace so you can chase your dreams and secure your children’s future. Today, I stand with you—the Indian government stands with Manipur’s people," PM Modi declared. Despite bad weather grounding his helicopter, he braved heavy rain and took a 1.5-hour road trip to meet violence-affected families in camps.
The Prime Minister called Manipur a "land of hope" that endured a dark phase but is now bouncing back. After chatting with those in relief camps, he added in Hindi, "Ummeed aur vishwas ki nayi subah Manipur mein dastak de rahi hai"—meaning a new morning of hope and trust is knocking at Manipur’s doors.
These steps show Manipur’s push for ethnic harmony and development, with leaders like the governor and PM Modi leading the way to restore stability in the region.
