Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has showered praise on the Indian women’s hockey team for their impressive run at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025. The team grabbed a silver medal in the tournament held in Hangzhou, China, despite a tough 1-4 defeat to the hosts in the final.
In an excited post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami wrote: "Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the women’s hockey team for their splendid performance and securing the silver medal in the Women’s Asia Cup-2025. The final match kept fans on the edge of their seats. India struck first just a minute in, thanks to a sharp penalty corner goal from veteran forward Navneet Kaur. Her powerful strike put the team ahead 1-0 and set an energetic tone.
China fought back hard, ramping up their attacks in the first half. They earned a penalty corner in the fourth minute, but Indian defender Sunelita Toppo blocked it on the goalline, and goalkeeper Bichu Devi made a crucial save to keep the lead intact.
The game stayed tense until the 21st minute, when China’s captain Ou Zixia converted a penalty corner to tie the score at 1-1. Both teams headed into halftime with everything still up for grabs.
India came out firing in the third quarter, dominating possession and pushing into China’s circle. But in the 40th minute, they missed a penalty corner chance, and China pounced on the counter. Li Hong dashed forward with a strong solo run and fired a back-handed shot into the bottom right corner, giving China a 2-1 lead.
China pulled away in the final quarter with two quick strikes. In the 51st minute, Ying Zhang set up Zou Meirong for a slick first-touch finish right in front of the goal, making it 3-1. Just two minutes later, Zhong Jiaqi burst down the right flank, cut inside, and slotted home the fourth goal to seal the 4-1 win.
Even in defeat, the Indian women’s hockey team’s silver medal at the Asia Cup 2025 highlights their rising talent and unbreakable spirit. Fans across India are buzzing with pride, and this performance promises more glory ahead for women’s hockey in the country.
