On Sunday, New Delhi‑based President‑in‑Office Narendra Modi celebrated Uttarakhand’s 25th Foundation Day by sending warm wishes to the state’s people. In a short X post, Modi applauded Uttarakhand for its rapid progress and its rich natural heritage, calling the “divine land” a model of new growth in tourism and every other field. He also prayed for the happiness, prosperity and good health of the state’s hardworking citizens.
Uttarakhand, known as Devbhoomi or the “Land of Gods,” was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000—making it India’s 27th state. The 25‑year milestone has drawn congratulations from leaders across the country who reflect on how the state moved from a people‑led struggle to a beacon of balanced development.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked the day as a “silver jubilee of struggle, values and dedication.” He paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision helped establish Uttarakhand. Dhami highlighted his government’s “double‑engine” strategy, which has spurred gains in connectivity, infrastructure, industry, tourism, education, health and women’s empowerment. He emphasized the state’s careful balance of environmental conservation and growth, noting Uttarakhand’s high ranking on the Sustainable Development Goals Index.
Tourism’s role in Uttarakhand’s growth was a key focus. Dhami highlighted successful initiatives like the Char Dham Yatra, Kanwar Yatra and temple redevelopment projects that have re‑defined the state’s identity. He also mentioned a record industrial investment of ₹3.5 lakh crore, with over ₹1 lakh crore already realized.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on X, congratulating Uttarakhand’s residents on their Foundation Day. He praised the joint efforts of Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Dhami, calling the state a “Crown Jewel of India” and wishing continued progress under divine guidance.
As Uttarakhand marks 25 years since its birth, the celebration remembers its journey from a grassroots movement to a leading example of faith‑based, modern, and sustainable development in India.
