Ashok Gehlot Slams Political Attacks on PM Modi’s Mother, Calls for Respect Across Parties
In the midst of a heated political row, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has spoken out against dragging mothers into election battles. Speaking in Jaipur on Friday, Gehlot urged everyone to respect mothers, regardless of party lines, following backlash over an AI-generated video shared by the Bihar Congress unit.
Gehlot, a senior Congress leader, told reporters, "We respect all mothers. Rahul Gandhi respects PM Modi’s mother too. It doesn’t matter if she’s from the ruling party or opposition—this kind of discussion about a mother just isn’t right." His comments come amid growing controversy over the video, which shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi dreaming of his late mother, Heeraben Modi, criticizing his politics.
The video, posted earlier in the day by Bihar Congress, has sparked outrage from the BJP. It portrays a fictional scenario where Heeraben Modi scolds her son over his decisions, turning into a viral point of contention in the ongoing political feud between Congress and BJP.
This isn’t the first time the issue has flared up. Earlier this month, during a Congress-led Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar’s Darbhanga, an unidentified person climbed the stage and hurled abuses at PM Modi and his late mother. The BJP quickly hit back, targeting Congress and ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), along with leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, for allegedly fueling such attacks.
BJP leader CT Ravi didn’t hold back in condemning the AI video. Speaking to , he called Congress a "clan of thieves" that always points fingers at others. "Who did vote chori? Congress! They even lost the Vice Presidential election on ballots. With God’s blessings, India got a leader like PM Modi," Ravi said sharply.
Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore echoed the criticism, slamming Congress for "cheap tactics" out of frustration. "Congress has lost its grip and now resorts to dirty tricks. They use indecent words about PM Modi’s mother and even uploaded this mimicry video on their state handle—it’s highly condemnable," Rathore stated. He added that society will reject such low blows and teach Congress a lesson.
The controversy highlights the rising tensions between BJP and Congress ahead of elections, with both sides accusing each other of crossing lines. As the debate rages on social media and in political circles, Gehlot’s call for respecting mothers has added a human touch to the otherwise fiery exchange.
