A tractor trolley accident in the village of Semlakhedi Para, Jhabua district, cast a dark shadow on the local Diwali celebrations. Late Sunday night, the trolley plunged into the steep Datya Ghati gorge, killing three people and injuring 22 others.
The crash happened as villagers were heading home after buying goods at the weekly “Haat” market. The victims included two children, Kamlesh (8) and Anil (12), and the driver’s son, Sepu Singh Dindor (25). The driver lost control, and the overloaded trolley could not navigate the narrow, winding road, especially after recent rains that softened the terrain.
Two severe cases were rushed to a hospital in Dahod, Gujarat for advanced treatment. The remaining 20 injured people are being treated at community hospitals in Para and Jhabua district. Injuries range from minor bruises to serious fractures, showing the impact’s force. Rescue work was hampered by darkness and difficult terrain.
Local police say preliminary evidence points to overloading and driver error. The trolley carried more than 25 passengers, which may have contributed to the loss of control. An investigation is underway to identify all causes.
District officials have pledged support, including financial aid under state disaster relief schemes. Families are working with local authorities to recover and manage the tragedy. Despite the sorrow, the community remains hopeful for a thorough investigation and stronger safety measures for future transport on narrow country roads.
