In Ranchi, a local court has handed down life sentences to three people involved in the shocking murder of a well-known real estate businessman. The case, which gripped the city two years ago, stems from a deadly family feud over marriage and money.
On September 22, Additional Judge Anand Prakash found Rahul Kujur, his father W. Kujur, and their associate Kavish Adnan guilty of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The trio now faces life behind bars for killing 55-year-old Kamal Bhushan.
Two others—Rahul’s mother, Sushila Kujur, and Munawar Afaq—walked free after the court said there wasn’t enough evidence to tie them to the crime.
The attack happened on May 30, 2022, in broad daylight on busy Ratu Road near Bhushan’s home. As the prominent builder stepped out, Rahul and Kavish ambushed him and fired shots, killing him instantly. W. Kujur had been tracking Bhushan’s movements that day. The group then rushed back to their place in the Ratu police station area and hid the weapons.
Police investigations uncovered a messy backstory. Bhushan’s daughter had married Rahul against her father’s strong objections, sparking ongoing fights. Tensions boiled over property deals and cash disputes in the real estate world, where Bhushan held big sway. Rahul reportedly wanted a bigger slice of his wife’s family fortune and worried Bhushan might strike back.
Back then, Ranchi police arrested five suspects: Rahul, W. Kujur, Kavish, Sushila, and Munawar. Now, only the three men convicted will serve time.
Ranchi SSP Surendra Kumar Jha, who oversaw the arrests, pointed to financial clashes and Bhushan’s disapproval of the marriage as the main triggers for the Ranchi murder case. The verdict brings some closure to a story that stunned the community and highlighted the dark side of family rifts in Jharkhand’s real estate scene.
