Thrissur, Kerala’s vibrant cultural hub, is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the 64th Kerala State School Arts Festival. Officials announced Saturday that this massive event, known as Asia’s largest youth cultural gathering, will draw nearly 14,000 students from across the state to compete in 249 arts, music, and cultural events.
Set for January 7 to 11, 2026, the five-day festival promises a colorful showcase of young talent. State Education Minister V. Sivankutty shared the news, emphasizing the Kerala government’s commitment to turning it into a historic milestone for school arts festivals.
“We’ve formed 19 sub-committees with dedicated leaders, and Thrissur’s community is fully on board to ensure a grand success,” Sivankutty said. To spread the word, organizers plan to use modern promotions like a custom promo video, reaching even more fans of Kerala’s youth arts scene.
Sustainability takes center stage too—the team vows strict adherence to the Green Protocol, aiming to make this one of the eco-friendliest cultural events in India. Preparations kicked off with a meeting of teachers’ representatives, followed by an organizing session led by Revenue and Housing Minister K. Rajan.
An expert committee, headed by the Director of General Education, will soon pick the best venues for all competitions. Participants and officials will stay in local schools, and everyone gets top-notch meals to keep the energy high.
Beyond the state budget, committees are hunting for sponsorships to amp up the festival’s vibrancy and Kerala cultural events. Top performers snagging an ‘A Grade’ will earn a Rs 1,000 cultural scholarship each, plus special mementos funded by sponsors.
Details on the highly anticipated Golden Cup procession will drop soon. With local leaders, schools, and residents pitching in, Sivankutty is confident this Kerala State School Arts Festival will become an unforgettable celebration of youth talent and tradition.
