Residents in Tamil Nadu are catching a break from the sticky heat today, as light to moderate rain with thunderstorms rolls through several districts. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai predicts showers across northern and southern parts of the state, plus Puducherry and Karaikal, easing the recent humid spell.
In Chennai, overnight downpours already soaked neighborhoods like Koyambedu, Nungambakkam, Valluvar Kottam, T. Nagar, and Teynampet. Outskirts such as Poonamallee, Kumananchavadi, Thirumazhisai, Chembarambakkam, Mangadu, Kundrathur, and Vanagaram saw steady rain too, cooling things down nicely. Expect highs around 33 degrees Celsius and lows between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Looking further ahead, keep an eye on Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts. The weather office warns of heavy rainfall in the hilly areas there on September 26 and 27, which could spark local flooding or minor issues. Officials urge people in those spots to stay alert and prepared.
Moderate rain should stick around Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal through September 25. For Chennai folks, partly cloudy skies with occasional light to moderate showers will continue in the days ahead. Meteorologists point to an active monsoon pattern, fueled by moist winds from the Bay of Bengal, as the main driver.
These rains could boost groundwater levels and give farmers in rain-dependent areas some welcome relief, without causing big crop problems right now. If you’re heading out in Chennai or nearby districts, watch for sudden bursts that might lead to waterlogging in low spots—better safe than stuck.
