Aizawl, Oct. 7 – Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma spoke to a room of government advocates, public prosecutors and nodal officers today in Aizawl, urging them to cut case‑handling delays and step up discipline. “Repeating slowness hurts the government,” he said. “We need integrity, fairness and timely action.”
During the launch of a new training program put on by the Law and Judicial Department, the CM reminded attendees that government lawyers aren’t just courtroom reps; they carry the state’s voice and guard justice. “Their work shows how serious the government is about fairness,” he said, encouraging advocates to live up to that responsibility.
He praised many officers and lawyers for their hard work and thanked them for their dedication. He also called for strict use of the department’s memorandum on “Procedure for Handling Litigation and Matters Connected Therewith.” “Follow this guideline, and our legal coordination will improve,” the CM added.
In a brief policy update, Lalduhoma said the state is moving forward on three new Central Criminal Laws and on the Inter‑Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). He highlighted the goal of creating a Directorate of Prosecution. “A study group has already sent us its recommendations, and we’re waiting for cabinet approval,” he noted.
The CM emphasized the key role nodal officers play in coordinating legal work inside departments. He urged them to maintain strong communication with government advocates, sometimes speaking directly by phone or meeting in person to avoid paperwork delays.
“Our training aims to sharpen knowledge and deepen our commitment to justice,” he said. “Let’s use this opportunity to strengthen both.”
Law and Judicial Department Secretary T. L. Guite said the training used to happen twice a year but stalled because of constraints. “We’re reviving it this year for a fresh start,” he said. Government advocates from across the state and nodal officers who handle court cases will now get detailed sessions to boost their skills and professionalism.
