Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called on teachers across the state to ease up on the pressure they put on students and instead focus on their unique family situations. Speaking at a School Education Department event in Chennai on Saturday, he stressed how teachers shape kids’ futures every day.
“Psychological well-being and physical health matter just as much as the lessons you teach,” Stalin said. He pointed out that in today’s busy world, children often spend more time with teachers than their own parents.
Stalin highlighted the diverse backgrounds of students in Tamil Nadu—some come from well-educated families, while many face social and educational challenges. He urged teachers to step up as “second parents,” understanding each child’s struggles and guiding them toward personal growth.
Looking ahead to a tech-driven future, the chief minister emphasized preparing students for artificial intelligence (AI) without losing the human touch. “Don’t let kids think Google or AI has all the answers,” he advised. “Help them balance technology with critical thinking. Beyond books, teach ethical values, love for reading, social awareness, and the urgency of climate change and environmental protection.”
To keep education fresh, Stalin encouraged teachers to get creative with digital tools. “Just like YouTube videos on problem-solving and critical thinking, make your own content to spark students’ talents,” he said. “What you do now plants seeds for a brighter tomorrow.”
He also pushed for classrooms that promote equality and social justice, free from caste discrimination or gender bias. “Teach fairness and inclusivity so every child feels valued,” Stalin added.
During the event, Stalin launched a training program for 2,715 newly recruited teachers and inaugurated 76 new school facilities built for Rs 122 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for 263 additional schools, estimated at Rs 310 crore, and unveiled a new building for the Scouts and Guides Headquarters.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, and School Education Secretary B. Chandra Mohan joined the gathering.
