Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his deep sorrow on Tuesday over the tragic death of nine workers in a steel arch collapse at the Ennore Thermal Power construction site in Tamil Nadu. The accident struck earlier that day in Chennai, leaving families heartbroken and sparking urgent questions about site safety.
Modi quickly stepped in with support, announcing financial aid from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Each family of the deceased will receive Rs 2 lakh, while injured workers get Rs 50,000. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), the PMO wrote: “Saddened by the mishap due to the collapse of a building in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The victims hailed from Assam and nearby regions, according to Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). He confirmed that BHEL officials rushed to the scene to assist. One worker suffered serious injuries, and more than 10 others were hurt badly in the chaos. All were rushed to Stanley Government Hospital in North Chennai for emergency care.
Police from the Avadi Commissionerate say rescue teams are still working hard at the Ennore Thermal Power site, pulling people to safety. The exact cause of the Tamil Nadu construction accident remains a mystery for now, with investigators digging deeper. Early reports point to the steel arch giving way suddenly, but officials promise a full probe to uncover what went wrong.
This Ennore mishap highlights the risks workers face on big projects like thermal power plants. As details emerge, authorities urge calm while supporting those hit hardest by the loss. Stay tuned for updates on the investigation and recovery efforts.
