In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government is set to unveil the timetable for next year’s key high‑school exams early this week. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi will announce the full schedule on Tuesday at the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram.
The announcement will spell out the dates for the State Secondary Learning Certificate (SSLC) exams for Class 10 and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams for Class 12, both slated for April 2026. It will also release the timetable for the new “Arya” exams for Class 11, a fresh assessment format the Directorate of School Education introduced this year to replace the old public exam.
The change is part of a bigger push to relieve students of exam pressure and shift from a rigid exam‑only system to a mix of internal assessments and periodic checks. Schools now plan to conduct internal tests for Class 11, giving teachers more flexibility to gauge progress and tailor instruction.
Officials say the new calendar gives students and teachers plenty of prep time. According to sources, Class 12 students will take practical exams in March, followed by theory tests in April. Class 10 students should finish internal assessments by February, setting them up for the board exams.
During the press event, the minister will likely discuss the updated, competency‑based paper format that follows the National Education Policy’s emphasis on analytical and application‑oriented learning. He will also touch on digital evaluation methods being rolled out across schools.
Senior officials from the School Education Department and many board representatives will attend. The exact exam dates will be posted instantly on the Directorate of Government Examinations’ website after the announcement.
For parents, teachers, and students, this new schedule aims to create a smoother transition from secondary to higher secondary schooling while staying in line with national education reforms.
