Major Naxalite Encounter in Jharkhand: 3 Top Rebels Killed with Rs 1.35 Crore Bounty
In a big breakthrough against Naxalites in Jharkhand, security forces gunned down at least three high-profile Maoists in the dense Pati Piri forest of Hazaribagh district. The operation happened on Sunday, and Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan shared the details on Monday. These Naxalites carried a whopping combined bounty of Rs 1.35 crore, marking a huge win for anti-Naxal operations in the region.
The top target was Sahdev Soren, also known as Parvesh, a key member of the Maoist Central Committee. He had a Rs 1 crore reward on his head. Another one, Raghunath Hembram from the Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee, carried a Rs 25 lakh bounty. The third, Birsen Ganjhu alias Ramkhelavan from the regional committee, had Rs 10 lakh on offer. Police recovered an AK-47 and other weapons from the spot, showing just how heavily armed these rebels were.
The encounter kicked off during a joint search operation by the 209 CoBRA battalion and Hazaribagh police in the Gorhar police station area. It started Sunday and is still ongoing, with forces combing the forest for any remaining Naxalites hiding out.
This isn’t the first time Sahdev Soren made headlines. Back in July, he was part of another fierce gunfight in Bokaro district, where a jawan from the 209 battalion lost his life. Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh said the clash broke out during a search after tips about a major Naxalite plot surfaced.
The fight comes hot on the heels of another success on September 7 in Chaibasa, where police killed Aaptan, a top zonal commander of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). Also called Amit Hansda, he had a Rs 10 lakh bounty and faced over 95 cases, including murders of police and civilians. Chaibasa SP Rakesh Ranjan said the raid followed intelligence on September 6 about Maoists planning big attacks and recruiting new members.
These back-to-back encounters highlight the ongoing battle against Naxalism in Jharkhand. Security forces are ramping up efforts to dismantle Maoist networks, and locals hope it brings more peace to these troubled areas. Stay tuned for updates as the search continues.
