After the last‑day of Durga Puja, the markets in Agartala – the capital of Tripura – burst back into life as locals prepare for the spring Kojagari Lakshmi Puja.
Artisans and potters set up colorful stalls everywhere, offering little to large‑size Lakshmi idols that gleam in bright paints. Though raw material costs rose slightly, sellers say the price of the idols hasn’t changed much from last year. “We’ve kept the prices steady for buyers,” one potter told reporters while carefully cutting clay and adding finishing touches.
Shoppers are already lining up to choose their idols. Prices start at about ₹300 for a small figurine, ₹500 for a medium model, and ₹800 for a larger piece. A local buyer praised the value, saying, “I only paid ₹300 for my idol and I’m very happy with it.”
Vendors feel the enthusiasm, noting that the market this year is as lively as it was a year ago. “I’ve sold a lot of idols and kept the prices low so everyone can afford them,” a seller said.
Fruit stalls have also sprung to life, stocked with bananas, coconuts, and seasonal fruits ready for puja offerings. A fruit shop owner added that prices remain the same as last year, keeping bananas and mangoes affordable for households preparing for the festival.
With streets lined in vibrant idols and fresh produce, the city is ready to welcome the goddess with devotion and joy. The bustling market scene in Agartala highlights the enduring tradition of Lakshmi Puja across Tripura, drawing visitors and locals alike to celebrate this joyous time.
