Tripura celebrated a landmark win in tribal development on Saturday, when the state bagged two national awards at the National Conclave on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan in New Delhi. Officials said the recognition shows how seriously the state takes grassroots empowerment and inclusive growth.
The state was awarded the best‑performing title for implementing the Prime Minister’s Janman Housing Mission (PM‑JANMAN) and for the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA). North Tripura district earned the same top honour under PM‑JANMAN, while Gomati district was praised for excelling in both ADI Karmayogi and DAJA. Unakoti and Dhalai districts also received national acclaim for their impressive DAJA work.
In PM‑JANMAN, Tripura has finished 15,584 houses and started 1,632 more. The state opened 141 new Anganwadi centres and connected over 38,000 vulnerable tribal households to tap water. More than 11,700 homes’ve been electrified on the grid, with 1,051 now powered by solar. The mission also launched ten cell towers, 18 multipurpose centres, 30 “Van Dhan” development hubs, and built 67 kilometres of roads, with 32 more underway.
DAJA, India’s biggest tribal empowerment campaign launched on June 15, 2025, follows the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkars Abhiyan. Tripura’s saturation‑camp model reached over 1.27 million people in 4,036 camps, helping them register identities, join financial schemes, get healthcare, and claim social welfare benefits. To keep momentum, Chief Minister Manik Saha assigned a dedicated minister to each district, ensuring local leaders drive progress.
Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan (AKA), championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, represents a shift from top‑down rule to citizen‑led planning. The initiative empowers 392 tribal villages to draft their own development plans, a new way of co‑creating progress with citizens, institutions, and the state.
The award ceremony, held on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan, saw President Droupadi Murmu hand the honours, with Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Minister of State Durgadas Uikey in attendance. Tripura’s tribal population—comprising 19 distinct communities—makes up about one‑third of the state’s 4 million residents. The accolades highlight how Tripura’s leadership and on‑the‑ground teams are turning ambitious programmes into real outcomes.
