Two dead, 12 injured after building collapses in Indore

Two people died and 12 others suffered injuries when a three-storey building collapsed in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday evening. The incident happened around 9 p.m. behind Premsukh Talkies on Jawahar Marg, in the bustling Daulat Ganj area.

Local officials rushed to the scene as the old structure, which included a basement, suddenly gave way. Initial fears pointed to 13 people trapped under the rubble, but rescue teams pulled out 14 survivors, including a young child who made it out safely. Tragically, two didn’t survive the ordeal—a man named Faheem and 20-year-old Alifa.

District Collector Shivam Verma arrived quickly and shared updates: “We rescued 14 people in total. One woman has severe leg injuries, but the other 11 are stable and receiving care.” The child who was pulled out later is also doing well at the hospital.

Teams from the Municipal Corporation, police, district administration, State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), and Civil Defence worked together through the night. Local residents lent a hand too, and crews brought in heavy equipment like excavators and JCB machines to shift the debris fast.

Experts suspect the building’s weak foundation played a big role—no proper beams or columns, plus constant water buildup around it from nearby issues. Officials noted it housed shops on the ground floor and homes above.

Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, Collector Verma, and Municipal Commissioner Harshika Singh stayed on site overnight, directing the Indore building collapse rescue efforts. Earlier reports mentioned about 40-45% of the structure down, with initial injuries to 10 people, including two kids and eight adults. But the focus stayed on saving lives and getting facts straight.

Verma emphasized the priority: “Our medical teams are right there supporting the operation. The building is about eight years old—we’re investigating more, but right now, it’s all about rescuing everyone and treating them properly.” Search teams continue to check for anyone else trapped in this shocking Indore incident.
