In Palakkad, a small town in Kerala, a tragic incident has shocked the community. A 14‑year‑old boy named Arjun from Kannadi Higher Secondary School took his own life last week, sparking anger, grief and a huge response from students, parents and local authorities.
Arjun, who lives in Pallenchathannur, was found dead at his home on Wednesday. His family says a class teacher, Asha, bullied him and threatened to involve the Cyber Cell for a message he sent on Instagram. According to a classmate, Asha “humiliated him in front of the class and even called the Cyber Cell during class hours.” The family believes the teacher’s actions pushed Arjun to a desperate decision.
The school shut down for four days while officials and the police investigate. In response to the family’s complaint, the police have opened a case and are interviewing students, staff and the teacher. Two staff members—teacher Asha and principal Lisy—have been suspended while the investigation continues.
Students and local groups staged a sit‑in and boycotted classes, demanding swift action. After the principal defended the teacher, protests grew louder and the municipal education department was forced to convene an emergency meeting. The city’s Education Minister, V. Sivankutty, ordered a detailed probe and asked district officials to submit a report, promising that counseling services would be provided to all students.
The incident has reignited a national conversation about mental health in schools, bullying, and accountability. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains watchful, hoping that steps will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
