Chandigarh, October 9 – Punjab police made a big hit against a Pakistan‑linked terror group. Counter‑Intelligence officers in Jalandhar caught two men who were part of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) network, a group that receives support from the Pakistani intelligence agency (ISI). The operation was ordered by BKI’s top chief, Harwinder Singh Rinda.
The officers arrested Gurjinder Singh and Diwan Singh in Jalandhar. While searching their homes, police seized 2.5 kg of an improvised explosive device (IED) filled with RDX and a remote‑control switch. Early investigations show the bomb was meant for a planned terror attack.
The Punjab Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) in Amritsar under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Substances Act. The arrest highlights the state’s growing focus on stopping BKI espionage and bomb‑making.
Last month, Police Chief Gaurav Yadav led a virtual meeting with senior officers, including station house officers, aiming to keep the upcoming festive season peaceful. He urged the police to take a hard line against gangsters, drug dealers, and other criminal networks.
“All officers, from the lowest rank to the senior superintendent, will be held accountable,” Yadav said. “We will not tolerate any slack in fighting crime. We’ll trace supply chains, analyze seized mobile phones, and break the gang’s network.”
The chief also reaffirmed the government’s zero‑tolerance stance on corruption. “If anyone, no matter the rank, is found guilty of corruption, they will face strict and exemplary punishment,” he said.
This operation marks a significant step in Punjab’s fight against the ISI‑backed Babbar Khalsa International and showcases the state police’s determination to secure the region and its people.
