Bihar BJP announces two new rebel members just before the 2025 assembly polls.
On Monday, the party’s state leader Dilip Jaiswal welcomed Sangita Kumari and Siddharth Saurav into the BJP at a ceremony in Patna. Both are former opposition legislators who had won their seats in 2020 on RJD and Congress tickets, respectively.
Sangita Kumari, who recently resigned from the Mohania seat in Kaimur district, had been elected as an RJD candidate in the 2020 elections. Siddharth Saurav, a two‑term Congress MLA representing the Bikram seat in Patna district, also stepped down before joining BJP. Their resignations and quick switch to the ruling party come after they had once sided with the NDA during the February 2024 floor test that saved Nitish Kumar’s government from a confidence crisis.
These defections add fresh legs to BJP’s grassroots network right before the Bihar assembly elections 2025. Political analysts had warned that both leaders would likely be dropped by their original parties next year, so bringing them in is a strategic boost for the BJP and its allies in the Janata Dal (United).
Earlier on October 10, former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad also re‑joined the BJP. Accompanied by his wife Rama, Nishad returned after a brief stint with Congress following the 2024 Lok Sabha election when he was denied a ticket by BJP. His return adds further experience to the party’s ranks as it prepares for the upcoming polls.
