Mumbai – On October 27, Shiv Sena‑UBT will host a big strategy meeting in Worli, Mumbai, as the party gears up for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The gathering comes amid a heated campaign by opposition groups that claim vote‑rigging is happening across the state.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will speak at the event and is expected to give concrete tips on how to spot fake names on the electoral rolls and keep a tight watch against “bogus voting.” He’ll also outline the party’s game plan for the upcoming BMC polls.
In what the party calls the “Nirdhar” meeting – a pledge to win the BMC – Thackeray is likely to confirm a new alliance with his cousin Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The partnership could give the opposition a better chance to challenge the BJP‑led Mahayuti coalition in the local elections.
Thackeray’s side says the meeting will bring together office bearers and branch leaders across Mumbai. “We’ll share strategies to keep our eye on the electoral rolls and prevent scams,” a source told the media. The meeting’s timing is also important because the Thackerays have said they are mending their strained relationship since both opposed the state government’s push to make Hindi compulsory in schools. A joint victory rally last July broke their 20‑year rift.
Although the two have met ten times since said rally, no official announcement of the BMC alliance has been made yet. Raj Thackeray, meanwhile, will highlight the same vote‑rigging concerns. On October 19 he urged his booth‑level team to watch for fake voters and called for a postponement of civic elections until the voter list was “purified.”
At the same time, Congress leader Bhai Jagtap has announced that the party will run solo in the BMC elections, saying it won’t ally with Uddhav Thackeray’s faction or the MNS. The Samajwadi Party has also declared it will contest the BMC polls independently. These moves are putting pressure on the Maha Vikas Aghadi, the coalition that includes Shiv Sena, a result of Congress and MNS statements.
The BMC election is a key battleground for parties in Maharashtra, and the Shiv Sena‑UBT meeting could set the tone for a tough fight against the BJP‑led Mahayuti.
