In Trichy on Wednesday, Udhayanidhi Stalin – the deputy chief minister and DMK youth secretary – warned that the BJP is trying to take over Tamil Nadu with help from the AIADMK. Speaking at a DMK meeting for the Srirangam constituency, he said the BJP‑led national government is “conspiring” with the AIADMK to dominate the state.
His remarks came as the DMK continues its long‑running battle with Governor R.N. Ravi. “Tamil Nadu has fought this governor for four years and will keep fighting until we win,” he said. Stalin urged party volunteers to stand firm against what he called fascist forces.
Stalin also suggested that the real power brokers in the AIADMK are Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Amit Shah, rather than the party’s own public figures. “Those who lead the AIADMK in the street are different from those who shape the party’s strategies,” he said.
In the same speech, the chief minister highlighted the DMK government’s welfare work. He announced that the state will soon issue free laptops to students and will roll out a women‑rights assistance scheme in two months, making Tamil Nadu the first state in India to do so.
“The upcoming five months are critical,” Stalin said. “We need to mobilise our grassroots cadres so the DMK can win at least 200 seats in the next assembly elections.” He praised the party’s grassroots network, noting that it has kept DMK alive for 75 years despite criticism and propaganda.
Stalin also warned against the BJP’s attempts to enforce Sanskrit and caste‑based teaching through the new education policy. “Tamil Nadu will resist any move that undermines our secular model,” he said.
He indirectly targeted actor Vijay, hinting that new allies are being sought for the BJP‑AIADMK coalition. The comment was met with a mix of applause and laughter from the audience.
Later, Minister K.N. Nehru urged DMK workers to focus on the nine Trichy‑district seats, reminding them that Srirangam remains a stronghold despite past close defeats. The party remains confident as the state election approaches.
