Bengaluru, Oct. 6 – The Ministry of Minority Affairs confirmed that the UMEED portal, which manages Waqf properties, will soon support several regional languages. The news came from a regional meeting focused on boosting the capacity of Waqf Boards and refining the portal’s features.
The meeting, held in Bengaluru, gathered representatives from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Officials said the UMEED portal launched in June 2025 requires all Waqf Boards to upload detailed property information within six months. Boards from the southern states have begun the upload process and plan to finish it quickly.
During the session, state officials pressed for a multilingual interface so that users can navigate the portal in their native languages. Ministry officials replied that the portal will be designed to accommodate multiple languages “in due course.” They also promised to make the system even more user‑friendly soon.
The UMEED system follows a three‑tier maker‑checker‑approver workflow. That structure helps keep data accurate and transparent while preventing errors and misuse.
The meeting was part of the Ministry’s effort to implement the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Act, which came into force in April 2025. By gathering feedback from state officials and Waqf Board leaders, the ministry hopes to streamline operations and improve coordination across the country.
As the UMEED portal expands its language options and user experience, it will continue to unlock the full developmental potential of Waqf assets, benefiting minority communities across India.
