In Bihar, the mood for the upcoming Assembly elections is growing tense, and the Congress party is showing signs of internal tension right in the heart of Magadh. The trouble began when Naina Kumari, the president of the Gaya District Council and a senior Congress member, fired a sharp critique at the state unit’s leadership.
Kumari told reporters that many party workers, supporters, and even veteran Congress volunteers feel “deep sorrow and anger.” She accused some Bihar leaders of openly betraying the ideal of social justice that Rahul Gandhi has long championed.
A key point of the dispute is the way seats have been divided under the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance). The Congress was allotted seven seats in the region, but six of those went to general‑category candidates, leaving only one seat for a reserved category. Kumari slammed the arrangement, saying that it “goes against the core principles of the Congress ideology” and undermines the party’s social‑justice mission.
She also singled out three Bihar in‑charges—Rajesh Ram, Krishna Alavari and Devendra Yadav—labeling their ticket‑distribution practices as “biased” and “manipulative.” According to Kumari, these actions betray Rahul’s policies and “misuse the party name” for personal gain.
Kumari’s remarks come at a time when many Congress members say the party’s historic focus on backward classes, extremely backward classes and minorities is being compromised. She cited Rahul’s own words that “women, backward classes, extremely backward classes, and minorities should be brought into the mainstream.” As a woman from an extremely backward community, she claimed that her rightful share was given to another, an insult she says has caused great pain and frustration for workers who have trusted the party.
She calls on the Congress high‑command to step in, review the entire ticket‑distribution process, and restore what she calls a “social balance” in Magadh. The internal dispute comes as the region’s key trade‑off seat decisions are about to influence the 2024 Bihar Assembly elections.
