On Monday, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu opened the UDAN Yatri Café at Vijayawada Airport, offering travellers the first low‑cost food outlet in Andhra Pradesh. The café is part of the government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) plan, which aims to make air travel and airport services more affordable for everyday passengers.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation posted the news on X, highlighting that the café provides budget‑friendly meals for all airport users. It marks a small but significant step toward making air travel smoother for people in the state.
While the café gets the spotlight, the ministry also reminded airlines and regulators that airfares should stay fair, especially during the busy festive period. The Ministry asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to keep a close eye on ticket prices and to act if they spike.
To meet the high demand expected over the holidays, airlines are already adding seats. IndiGo plans about 730 extra flights across 42 routes. Air India and Air India Express will together run roughly 486 new services on 20 routes. SpiceJet is adding around 546 flights covering 38 sectors. The DGCA has told airlines to adjust capacity accordingly, and the carriers have responded with these new schedules.
Earlier this month, Minister Rammohan Naidu spoke at the 3rd North East Aviation Summit in Arunachal Pradesh. He urged stronger cooperation between the centre, states, and the aviation industry to boost air connectivity in remote and border areas. Better links would help tourism, cargo, and transport in the Northeast. The summit also emphasized the importance of expanding flight networks across the region.
The UDAN Yatri Café and the expanded flight services together aim to provide cheaper, more reliable air travel options for passengers across India.
