Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram cheered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation, saying it’s a big win for India’s poor and tribal communities. Speaking to in New Delhi on Sunday, September 21, Oram highlighted how the new GST reforms, kicking off from tomorrow, will ease burdens on everyday folks. “This is a welcome step,” Oram said. “We welcome PM Modi for reducing the GST and its implementation from tomorrow. This will benefit the poor and the tribals of the country. Zero GST has been implemented on a lot of things; this will be highly beneficial. The Income Tax exemption up to Rs 12 lakhs is also a very good step for the benefit of the people.”
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed the praise, calling the changes a “GST budget festival” that lets regular people afford pricier goods without the old high costs. In his chat with , Maurya noted how the reforms build on the “one nation, one tax” GST system introduced earlier. “The poor can also buy expensive things because they no longer have to pay the price they had to pay before,” he added. Maurya tied the moves to the Swadeshi movement started by Mahatma Gandhi during India’s freedom struggle. “Prime Minister Modi has called for adopting Swadeshi,” he said. “This will lead to a self-reliant and developed India.”
The buzz comes right after PM Modi’s call to embrace Swadeshi and boost Made in India products, just as these GST reforms take effect on September 22—the start of Shardiya Navaratri. “We need to make every home a symbol of Swadeshi… every shop should be adorned with Swadeshi products,” the Prime Minister urged in his nationwide speech. These steps aim to promote local growth and cut taxes on essentials, sparking hope for a more affordable and self-sufficient India.
