Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia landed in Guwahati, Assam, on Friday to kick off a two-day tour across India’s Northeast region. Right after arriving, he jumped into the Artfed Jagaran event as part of the GST Bachat Utsav campaign and chatted with reporters about some big government moves.
Scindia spotlighted the latest GST rate cuts, calling them a game-changer that helps everyday Indians. “These reductions are unprecedented and touch every citizen’s life,” he said, adding that they’re the perfect Diwali gift from the government.
He also shared exciting news for telecom fans: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate BSNL’s 25th anniversary by launching a fully homegrown 4G stack and 100,000 indigenous BSNL towers nationwide. The Guwahati event drew local leaders like Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania.
Scindia explained how the old system of multiple GST slabs weighed down traders and frustrated shoppers with higher costs. Now, the government has streamlined things into just two key rates—5% and 18%—covering everyday essentials. This cuts taxes for businesses, makes products cheaper for consumers, and gives a real boost to India’s economy.
At its heart, the GST Bachat Utsav is all about putting savings straight into family pockets, especially timely for Navratri and Diwali celebrations.
Diving deeper into the telecom launch, Scindia described it as a landmark for India’s self-reliance push, or Atmanirbhar Bharat. The project features a C-DOT core network, Tejas Networks’ radio access tech, and TCS handling the integration—all built in India with an eye on future innovations. “This puts India at the forefront of global telecommunications,” he noted, embracing the idea of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family) to drive digital access and tech prowess for everyone.
In a somber moment, Scindia expressed deep sadness over the death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. He remembered how Garg’s powerful voice and songs brought together people from Assam, the Northeast, and all of India. “His legacy in music will live on forever, but his loss hits the industry hard,” Scindia said.
