Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia landed in Guwahati on Friday for a two-day tour across India’s Northeastern region. Right after arriving, he jumped into the Artfed Jagaran event as part of the GST Bachat Utsav campaign and chatted with reporters.
Scindia praised the government’s recent GST rate cuts, calling them a game-changer for everyday Indians. “These cuts are unprecedented and help every citizen,” he said, adding that they’re the perfect Diwali gift this year.
As the Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Scindia shared exciting news about a telecom breakthrough. Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to launch a completely homegrown 4G stack and 100,000 Swadeshi BSNL towers on Saturday. This comes right on the 25th anniversary of BSNL.
He explained how the project shines a light on India’s tech talent: “It’s all made in India, with C-DOT handling the core network, Tejas Networks building the radio access part, and TCS putting it all together. We designed it with future tech needs in mind.”
The Guwahati event drew big names, including Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania.
Scindia called the GST changes historic. Before, too many tax slabs weighed down traders and frustrated shoppers. Now, the government has streamlined it to just two main rates: 5 percent and 18 percent. Everyday essentials fit under these lower slabs, easing the load on businesses, making products cheaper for families, and giving the economy a real boost.
This is the heart of the GST Bachat Utsav push, Scindia noted—delivering direct savings to homes just in time for Navratri and Diwali celebrations.
Looking bigger picture, he tied the telecom launch to Atmanirbhar Bharat goals. It not only strengthens India’s self-reliance but also puts the country on the global map for telecom innovation. In the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family—India aims to lead in digital access and tech power, inspiring not just its own people but the entire world.
