Kerala Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian recently met Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi to invite him to the exciting Kerala-EU Blue Economy Conclave 2025, themed “Blue Tides.” This key meeting happened at Sonowal’s residential office, with Kerala’s Special Representative in Delhi, K.V. Thomas, and Additional Resident Commissioner Aswathi Srinivas joining in.
The conclave kicks off on September 18 and 19 at The Leela Raviz in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala’s Fisheries Department is teaming up with the Indian government and the European Union to organize this big international event. It promises to gather top EU ambassadors, senior policymakers, diplomats, industry leaders, academic experts, and Blue Economy specialists for lively discussions.
What’s on the agenda? Participants will dive into opportunities and challenges in marine fisheries, aquaculture, coastal infrastructure, circular economy, energy transition, smart ports, tourism, education, and skill development. Minister Cherian highlighted how the event will boost India-Kerala-EU partnerships, drive sustainable growth, and position Kerala as a hotspot for innovation in the Blue Economy.
Expect more than just talks—there will be cultural programmes and networking sessions that let attendees experience Kerala’s rich heritage and warm hospitality. Leading the EU side is Ambassador Herve Delphin, along with envoys from 20 European nations like France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria.
The conclave will also spotlight Kerala’s deep maritime traditions and strong sea connections, showcasing the state as an ideal spot for European investments. By highlighting initiatives in sustainable fisheries, coastal development, and renewable energy, this event aims to put Kerala on the global map as a leader in Blue Economy principles.
