Uttar Pradesh residents have more reasons to celebrate this festive season. On Wednesday, the state government announced a cut in bus fares, including air-conditioned ones, to make travel easier and more affordable for daily commuters and festival-goers heading to Dussehra and Diwali events.

This move by the Uttar Pradesh government is already winning hearts. People across the state are thrilled about the relief during peak travel time. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will slash fares on all its AC buses by up to 10%, effective immediately and lasting until further notice.

Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh emphasized how this step boosts passenger comfort and convenience. “We’re focusing on making travel more affordable and enjoyable,” he said.

The discount covers popular services like Janrath, Pink, Shatabdi, Volvo, and AC sleeper buses. Note that it won’t apply to any new AC buses registered after January 1, 2024. Here’s how the new rates shake out after the 10% cut:

– 3*2 Bus Service: Rs 1.45 per kilometer
– 2*2 Bus Service: Rs 1.60 per kilometer
– High-End (Volvo) Buses: Rs 2.30 per kilometer
– Air-Conditioned Sleeper: Rs 2.10 per kilometer

To keep things running smoothly without hurting the bus corporation’s revenue, the minister added that drivers and conductors are getting special training to draw in more passengers.

Earlier that day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared warm wishes for Maha Navami and renewed his commitment to women’s safety. He highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s progress, saying, “As India’s most populous state, we now have the lowest rate of crimes against women and lead the country in punishments and convictions.” The government aims to ensure every woman lives with safety, dignity, and independence.
