UP: Vindhyachal Railway Station gears up with special facilities for Shardiya Navratri Mela

Vindhyachal Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh gears up for the bustling Shardiya Navratri Mela, running from September 22 to October 6. Pilgrims heading to honor Goddess Durga will find plenty of upgrades to make their journeys smoother and safer.

Station officials have rolled out five extra unreserved ticket counters and a new inquiry center. Reserved ticket counters now run in two shifts to handle the crowds. To keep things moving, they’ve added 16 staff members at the counters and 18 more for security and other tasks. Hungry travelers can grab refreshments at five food stalls on site.

In the first three days of the festival—September 22 to 24—the St. John Ambulance Brigade stepped in with primary medical care for 307 pilgrims and dressing services for 10 more. That’s a big help for anyone feeling under the weather during the celebrations.

Train travel looks solid too, with 18 regular train pairs stopping at Vindhyachal Station. Plus, 13 special train pairs join the mix just for pilgrims’ convenience, boosting options during Navratri peak times.

Staying hydrated and comfortable? No worries—five drinking water points are available. The station also set up 15 temporary toilets for men and 15 for women, along with passenger sheds and a wide 12-meter foot overbridge to ease foot traffic.

Safety comes first, so expect ambulances, primary healthcare spots, civil safety teams, and personnel from the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police on duty throughout the mela.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the third day of Navratri by praying to Goddess Chandraghanta, a symbol of peace, courage, and fearlessness. He shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “The third day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Mother Chandraghanta. May the blessings of Devi Ma infuse positivity into everyone’s life. May her grace bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune to my family members across the country—this is my prayer.”

Shardiya Navratri, this vibrant Hindu festival, lights up India every year in the lunar month of Ashwin. Over nine nights, devotees worship Goddess Durga and her nine powerful forms, each representing traits like strength, wisdom, and kindness. You’ll see daily prayers, fasting, bhajans, and lively dances such as Garba and Dandiya Raas filling the air with energy and joy.
