Cloudburst Hits Uttarakhand’s Chamoli District, Leaving 7 Missing
A sudden cloudburst brought chaos to Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district late Wednesday night, sweeping away homes and leaving at least seven people missing in the Nandanagar Ghat area. Officials say the heavy downpour triggered massive destruction, burying six houses under debris in the Kuntri Lagafali ward.
Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari shared details with , explaining how the intense rain hit hard. "The cloudburst struck Nandanagar Ghat, completely burying six houses in Kuntri Lagafali," he said. Rescue teams pulled out two people so far, but searches continue for the seven still unaccounted for.
Right away, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and district officials rushed to the spot for search and rescue ops. They’re working non-stop to clear the rubble and find the missing folks. Relief efforts are in full swing to help those affected by this Uttarakhand cloudburst disaster.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami voiced his sorrow over the recent string of natural calamities hitting the state. Speaking at a handicraft exhibition in Dehradun, he highlighted the landslides and flash floods from heavy rains this year. "Our government stands committed to rebuilding lives in every disaster-hit spot," Dhami assured.
Just a day earlier, on Tuesday, torrential rains flooded Dehradun, making the Sahastradhara river overflow. The rushing waters dragged debris right into the main market, wrecking shops and hotels along Sahastradhara Road. This heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has caused widespread damage to businesses and homes, adding to the woes from ongoing weather woes.
