Haridwar Gears Up for Grand 2027 Kumbh Mela with Key Infrastructure Push
In Haridwar, Uttarakhand, preparations for the massive 2027 Kumbh Mela are picking up speed. On Friday, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan visited the site to check on ongoing and upcoming projects. His focus? Boosting infrastructure to handle the huge crowds expected at this spiritual extravaganza.
Bardhan toured several key spots alongside top officials like Mela Officer Sonika, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal, and HRDA Vice-Chairman Anshul Singh. They examined the ghat expansions, a proposed multi-modal hub at Gauri parking on the Najibabad Highway, and plans for a ropeway to the famous Chandi Devi Temple.
The team also reviewed exciting additions like a cultural hub near Niladhara at Divya Prem Mission Ashram and a laser show setup at Namami Gange Ghat. Bardhan stressed that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wants the entire event to feel truly divine and grand. He directed everyone to finish all permanent and temporary works, including ghat expansions, by December 2026.
Safety comes first for the devotees, Bardhan added. He ordered quick installation of railings at priority ghats and urged officials to complete tasks on time with full dedication. Mela Officer Sonika and District Magistrate Mayur Dixit greeted him warmly on arrival and promised their teams would follow through on every instruction.
This visit builds on CM Dhami’s earlier push. Back on September 3, he had called for timely completion of all Kumbh Mela 2027 preparations, with permanent projects wrapping up by October 2026. In a high-level meeting at the Secretariat, Dhami made it clear: organizing a spectacular Kumbh is the state government’s top goal.
He wants departments to team up, prioritize tasks, and stick to an expanded master plan. That means marking out sectors, routes, parking zones, ghats, and campsites clearly. Officials must secure land for both permanent use and temporary needs during the fair.
To ease crowd pressure, Dhami highlighted building new ghats, expanding Kangra Ghat, and fixing old ones right away. He also demanded strict action against encroachments on government land and roads to keep everything safe and smooth.
