Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Reviews Disaster Damages in Haldwani
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stepped up efforts to help disaster-hit areas on Friday. He held a key meeting at the Circuit House in Kathgodam, Haldwani, to check the latest on damages from recent heavy rains and landslides. Officials discussed power supply, drinking water, and road conditions in detail.
Dhami made it clear: the state government fully supports affected families. "We’re prioritizing relief and rebuilding work," he said. He urged officials to deliver quick aid and finish reconstruction on time. The meeting focused on how the Uttarakhand disaster recovery is moving forward amid monsoon chaos.
Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate shared updates on the heavy toll. Nainital district alone faces damages worth about Rs 443 crore, and they’ve already sent this report to the Government of India team for analysis. Key issues include road subsidence on Nainital Lower Mall Road, broken bridges in Bageshwar, problems at Ranibagh powerhouse, blocked routes in Okhalkanda and Dhari blocks, and big landslides on national highways.
The District Magistrate presented a full breakdown of monsoon damages, relief steps taken, and vulnerable spots like roads, villages, rivers, and streams. He asked for approvals on urgent proposals to the state government. They also covered displacement risks in high-danger areas like Chukam and Khupi villages, plus road fixes needed there. Rivers such as Gaula, Nandhaur, and Kosi caused major havoc, but teams are preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for long-term fixes.
This year, unusual heavy rainfall hit almost every Uttarakhand district hard. Dhami noted that disaster impacts are two to three times worse than normal. He pushed officials to tap central government aid alongside state funds for fast rebuilding in flood-affected and landslide-prone zones.
"Every department and officer must own their role and meet deadlines," Dhami stressed. He warned that accountability matters—no room for negligence in Uttarakhand disaster management. He ordered patchwork repairs on roads within a month, protection for water channels, and removal of encroachments. Dhami highlighted teamwork between administration and local leaders, saying the government is all-in on recovery.
He also directed the Irrigation Department’s Chief Engineer to create a solid plan for de-silting reservoirs and submit it soon. On a side note, he quickly resolved pending salaries for UPNL staff at Sushila Tiwari Hospital after it came up.
Dhami reassured everyone: "We’re standing strong with our people in this tough time." Relief and reconstruction top the list, with coordinated action for roads, water bodies, and homes to get things back on track fast.
To tackle monsoon waterlogging risks—like spreading waterborne diseases—Dhami told the Health Department to stay ready. They must stock medical facilities in all health centers and set up widespread health camps across affected areas.
Finally, he called for quick grievance camps and multipurpose events to solve public problems on the spot. All officials must join block-level meetings and keep up public outreach in Uttarakhand’s recovery drive.
